The impressive Firehouse building was built in 1912 and is located downtown on Second Street. Featuring arched doorways, wooden floors, a hose tower and an original jail, the firehouse is currently under restoration and is intended to become a general museum for the city. The James School + My Favorites
This one-room school house was built in 1917. Utilized by classes up to grade eight, the school closed in 1948. It was then used as a church for the next 10 years, after which it was abandoned. Restored in 1987, the James School now features many of the original school desks, books and the original school bell. Located 5 mi south of Presque Isle, it is open to the public from 1pm to 2.30pm on Sundays during July and August, and by appointment at other times. Address: | Presque Isle, ME Tel: 1 207 764-6561
Vera Estey House + My Favorites
The Vera Estey house was donated to the Presque Isle Historical Society by previous owner, the late Vera Estey. The home preserves an era spanning the early to mid-1900s, complete with original furnishings and contents. The house is open to the public by appointment.
