Trans-Atlantic Balloon Site & Memorial Park + My Favorites
A memorial park exists at the launching site of the first trans-Atlantic hot-air balloon flight. The Double Eagle II set off for France from this spot on August 11, 1978, arriving safely at its destination on August 17. The park was established in 1981 and features a monument dedicated to Double Eagle II, its pilots, and the historic flight. The park is located 5 mi south of Presque Isle on Spragueville Road.
